When SMILE started we built small websites for small organisations. As we’ve grown, the projects that we’ve worked on have become bigger scale, high profile.

Now, we host mission-critical websites and applications that our customers rely on. We act as an extension of our customers’ teams, allowing them to focus on what they do best.

Over the last decade at SMILE, we’ve developed a hosting infrastructure that we truly believe is best-in-class. Alongside this, we’ve always been proud of our approach to customer service.

Today, SMILE is announcing HappyPress – Managed WordPress subscriptions.

HappyPress subscriptions are a little bit different to how we have historically priced similar services. Gone are ‘packages’, and now you can tailor subscriptions to your requirements with absolute transparency about what you can expect from our service.

If you are an existing customer that is required to switch to a HappyPress subscription, we’ll reach out to you personally in the next few days.

For new customers, or those that would like to switch, you can configure your subscription today online.

We’ve been consulting with customers ahead of this change and here are some answers to common questions:

Can I stay on my existing plan?

You can only remain on your existing plan if you are in a contract (but you will need to move to a HappyPress Subscription). If you are not in a contract then you will be required to switch to a HappyPress subscription.

When do I need to switch by?

New pricing comes into effect from April 1st 2021.

What do HappyPress subscriptions cover?

HappyPress gives you the opportunity to access to our managed (and maintained) WordPress installation complete with pre-approved plugins (including premium plugins), 24/7 Help Hub, human-first support team via telephone/live chat/ticketed service desk. Will my bills go up?

In most cases, prices will remain similar. For some they will go down, and for some they will rise. HappyPress is designed to be a fairer financial model based on the support requirement. For those that don’t need as much support from our operations team (who help support you and maintain the infrastructure), your prices will be reduced. For those that are heavy users of our services, you will likely see an increase in our prices.

What contract lengths are available?

HappyPress subscriptions are available over 12 or 36 month terms. Discounts are available for 36 month terms.

What’s changed?

In the last few years we’ve added lots (dedicated telephone number, live chat, Help Hub), and we’ve introduced even more for HappyPress (Lifeboat, Auditor Backups, CDN support, Git Mirroring), all on top of our always-developing infrastructure. And we have dedicated staff for support now too.

Is development work included?

No – we’ve never entertained retainer-based contracts previously. However, we do now offer retainer contract for creative services. We call these “Evolve” subscriptions, and you can find out more on the Evolve section of our Help Hub.
